My dad, Tadeusz Rajszel, was admitted to the CCU yesterday, and I have been calling the wonderful staff who has been taking care of him. I know how busy they must and sometimes I feel guilty for calling as often as I do, but being in Texas I feel so fas removed from what is going on and sometimes I just need to hear that he is OK. I was thinking that it would be a wonderful thing to have patient information on the "net" where I could find out up to date information about him and not have to take precious time away from those giving him care. Just a thought...

my husband was diagnosed with lyme disease 3 years ago, to make a very long story short he now has avascular necrosis, a condition where the joints in your body die. he has had both hips replaced and is going next for a shoulder and possibly knees. My question is, does the hospital have any kind of program to help someone like him find some kind of work that he can do either from home or other. We are trying every resource. I don't expect a miracle but every opinion helps. thanks.

I was a patient at the hospital from 10/31/98 through 11/5/98 in the cardiac section (room 4207-1). The nursing staff was great, very responsive and friendly. The cardiologist that had my case was Dr. Lahavia (spelling?). I could not find him in your physician directory when I looked today. Is he new and therefore not entered yet? I checked all of the L's to see if there was anyone close, but no luck. The medical student, Jonathan Weinstein, who was watching my case was very friendly and helpful too. I wish him a lot of luck in his career. Thanks again for a pleasant stay.

If you can suggest something that will help and is not very expensive, I will try it. I want to be the person I used to be (doing things for myself and not relying on others). i am a college student at St. peter's in Jersey City. I have become aware of a baby holding program at the Jersey City Medical Center and was wondering if there was anything of the sort at HUMc. I had been a volunteer there in recent years as a junior volunteer, but I now wish to see and volunteer in the pediatrics or NICU, or in any baby holding programs that you may offer. I am deciding in a career between education and/or neo-natal nursing, pediatrics. any information you can reply with would be helpful. Thank you for your time and help--Lisa Marie Greco

This is to comment on a great job Dr. Locurto of your trauma unit did in presenting the DWI re-enactment at Bergen Tech Monday. The children seemed to absorb the content of the program. I'm sure that the program will acheived its objective in preventing injuries and death associated with drunk driving.

I had my son at the Hackensack University Medical Center back in 1996. I am now due to have my second son at your wonderful facility in January 1999. My Ob/Gyn changed medical insurances in between each pregnancy. I was ultimately depressed when he no longer carried my insurance. Fortunately, 2 weeks before I found out I was having my second son, I found out Dr. Gallo was accepting my current insurance, therefore allowing me to have one of the finest obstetricians, and delivering in one of the finest hospitals.

I have been diagnosed with chronic or tertiary lyme disease. How can I help to persuade the CDC that only a small percentage of individuals present with the classic bulls eye rash, and that one course of antibiotic may not be sufficient to eradicate the bacteria(given its cyclical nature of reproduction)? It appears to me that there is adequate medical reporting from serious physicians to warrent changes in the CDC's diagnostic criteria. Also, why isn't a urine antigen test done as part of the initial diagnostic lab work since the traditional blood tests are known to be inadequate with poor lab consistency in carrying out these evaluations? Thank you for reading this.

I just discovered your wonderful web site. I will always be grateful to HUMC for the first-class treatment I have always received. On January 25, 1990 I survived a plane crash in which 73 people perished. I suffered multiple fractures and trauma throughout my entire body and was literally reconstructed by Dr. Mark Hatzband. . .the world's greatest orthopaedic surgeon IMHO. Thanks also to Dr.Gary Savatsky, Dr. LoCurto, Dr. L.Donald Weinstein Dr. Mark Schlessinger and any others I may have forgotten. Also a special thanks to the wonderful nursing staff in the orthopaedic section especially Debra Brody! As long as I'm thanking the wonderful staff at HUMC who have been helpful to me I must include Nurse Luanne Brogna who indispensible in my recovery from colon surgery two years after my recovery from the airplane crash.

I recently developed symptoms of lyme on my right ankle. I never did see a tick at that site. However, I did have a tick remain attached at another site until it became ingorged. Does the characteristic "bulls eye" type rash always occur at the "site of the bite" so to speak? Also, does the rash area itch? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks, Jack

My husband will be having by-pass surgery this week by Drs. Praeger and Somberg, and I wanted to check out the hospital. I am very impressed with what I have learned about the hospital. I feel a lot more confident now. I have been a Mt. Sinai snob for years, but may convert now that I see there is a NJ hospital that is up to NY standards...and a lot more convenient. Can you recommend a good endrocrine/oncologist who is willing to spend time with a very complicated case. Thank you. I have two e:mail addresses - either bbruno@aol.com or bbruno@lehman.com

My wife and my self cannot find the proper words to discribe the wonderful people we have met at the pain management center. Dr.E.Nolasco,Joan Monaghan,Elena Rojas With their tirerless help kindness &understanding they have given me a quality of life that I would not have had through normal channels. Most important of all they have enabled me to keep my family together.BEING chronically ill was not among my coping skills. All I can say is that when others saw me as a # with these carring people I had a name, when others thought my pain was not their problem they where there.Having FMS/MPS/Chronic fatigue/Chronic hep-C dibetes and the list isn't getting smaller. It is very comforting to know there are still people who love their ability to truly care and make a difference in someone's life. And it may seem a little overdramatic if it had not been for these people I would have no life or family to make adjustments for.If it sounds a bit thick this is only because we can not thank these people enough.I have no delusions that I am the sickest person in all the world or my pain is any more real than the next person, but this is my 3rd HMO now a State HMO,I am familiar with the piecemeal evauations and the run around when a Dr. doesn't want your case, because you might need to see him more than once a month or is just too much work.WELL one can go on &on it is just refreshing to come in contact with people who have pride in what they do and accept the fact that their only reward is in saving a family such as mine!!and not how much they get from the check attached to the # on my HMO.card.FROM RICK MARTHA RICK, Jr., DOROTHYANN AND CHRISTOPHER ,THANKS FOR EVERYTHING. When it comes to Medical Care in New Jersey, there is only one hospital that offers real care -- Hackensack. I have been a patient for many years, having by-pass at the age of 34 in 1991. HUMC is the Major Leagues while the others are maybe in the rookie leagues. Who ever is lucky enough and smart enough to have a doctor that is part of HUMC has a definate jump on living longer. Dr. Virender Sethi without any question is in my opinion the most complete doctor in the entire US. I am lucky to be able to drive 1 hour to his office in Hackensack to continue my care.

I would like to "THANK" all the nurses, on the cancer floorof the hospital. A VERY "special" THANK YOU" to a nurseby the name of "CHRIS" that also works on the 4th floorbelow the cancer floor (5th).My best friend who is my brother (Richie) was diagnosed with"cancer-lymphoma". This disease was taking his life at avery young age of 36. Dr. Rosenblouth, Dr. Pecero and"Jo-Anne" at the Cancer Clinic took the time, many times,to explain situations to myself and my parents, to comfortus during this very stressful time. My best friend neededa "bone marrow" transplant and the statistics were agaisntus for the perfect match. But with alot of prayers fromfamily and friends, GOD BLESSED our family. During my brother's stay with you, ALL of you that includesthe person and or persons from radiology, to the nurses tohelp make his stay (5 weeks) as comfortable as possible fora person that was aware of a 20% survival. My brother hasbeen in and out of your hospital since 11/97. TODAY 6/16/98he is home. BUT most importantly my Best Friend, my brother,my parent's Son, is "ALIVE" because of a successful BoneMarrow Transplant, blood transfusions, platelets, and moreimportant because of the "knowledge, wisdom, and care"received at your Hospital. There are no words that can describe my "gratitude"Thank you to all of you involved.respectfully,Chris Muzzyka-Belli
